Autodesk offers university members the opportunity to use various Autodesk programs. It is not allowed to use these programs for private purpose and any commercial third-party-funded research!
All Autodesk products are available to employees of the University of Stuttgart for free through the Autodesk Education Community.
The former Autodesk® Master Suite (AutoCAD®) license maintenance contract will not be renewed! Already acquired programs can still be used.

Description:
The manufacturer Jet Brains offers software for the development environments, e.g. IntelliJ (Java), PyCharm (Python), CLion (C/C++). The products are made available as Community Editions free of charge and open-source, and the entire portfolio of more than 20 development and productivity tools is available free of charge to students, professors and scientific staff.
The software must be purchased directly from the manufacturer.
If you are interested in making this software available to computer pools, please contact the license support. Jetbrain provides Floating License Servers free of charge for such purposes, which also allow the rollout on virtual machines easily.

Description:
MATLAB is used worldwide to solve mathematical problems, evaluate and analyze data, and graph the results.
Simulink provides a graphical development environment for designing and simulating engineering systems and is used to solve demanding engineering problems.
More information:
The University of Stuttgart participates in the MATLAB Baden-Württemberg national license. This is a rental license for academic purposes, which has to be renewed annually. The license covers MATLAB, Simulink, and all available toolboxes. The program offers the following features, among others:
- Solving mathematical problems
- Graphical representation of the results
- numerical calculations using matrices
Additionally, MATLAB Parallel Server can be used with the national license. MATLAB Parallel Server allows you to use multiple computers (clusters) for calculations using MATLAB. However, there is a requirement to modify the MATLAB code for parallel processing. No additional MATLAB Parallel Server license is required in addition to the regular desktop license. The cost of the Parallel Server is covered by appropriate individual licenses on the cluster nodes. So licenses are required for all computers in the cluster. For tests or for short-term applications, up to 5 (10 are also possible at short notice) nodes can be handled via the central license server. For regular use a maximum of 32 nodes is possible, but this requires a license server at the institute. A configuration of a cluster with different computers is possible. The rental license includes MATLAB and Simulink and all deliverable tools. Institutions of the University of Stuttgart can purchase the software in the asknet store and install it on devices owned by the university as well as on private devices. To use a MATLAB single-user license, the employee* is required to correctly enter their e-mail address, first name, and last name when creating a MathWorks account.
In addition, MATLAB Parallel Server can be used with the license. Please contact the license support if you are interested in this product. Further information can be ordered from the producer.

Microsoft Imagine is the successor to Dreamspark, a licensed program for IT education in the MINT subjects. University of Stuttgart has a MS Imagine Standard membership for all teachers. Microsoft MS Imagine Premium may only be provided for the MINT faculties, due to the license terms and express request of the company. Therefore, TIK has completed separate MS Imagine Premium memberships for faculties 1-8 as well as individual departments of faculty 10 (currently only business information systems). MS Imagine Premium offers a wider range of software than the standard version. MS Imagine Standard is available for faculty 9 faculty members and faculty 10. They are currently classified as not eligible for use, with a slightly lower software offering. Please note that these restrictions are based solely on the terms of service of Microsoft.

MS Imagine will be replaced by MS Azure Dev Tools for Teaching on the 11th of February 2019. Unfortunately, Microsoft has not been able to provide us with any information on how to register for the new service. Therefore, we can neither implement nor test the connection of the university accounts to the new service "Azure Dev Tools" in time. At the same time, data protection issues arise, as anonymous registration (as before) will probably no longer be possible. Access to MS Imagine ended on the 10th of February. As soon as we have further information, we will make it available here. Until then, we ask for your understanding.

The TIK has obtained a membership for the VMWare Academic program for the University of Stuttgart. The license contains, among others, the following products:
VMWare Workstation (Windows/Linux)
VMWare Fusion (Mac)
VMWare vSphere
VMWare vCenter Server
The license allows you to use this software for private use as well as in research and teaching application. Infrastructural use, thus the use of this software in basic Server-Infrastructure is strictly prohibited.
All stuff member of the University of Stuttgart are permitted to use these products, with a singular license per product. If you are in need of additional licenses, you will need to purchase them as usual.
Further information can be found on the homepage of the manufacturer.
Please mind the End User License Agreement (EULA). A violation of any of these agreements can lead to an exclusion of the whole University, not only yourself.
