At the University of Stuttgart alfaview is especially meant to be used in senstitive settings, for example:
- boards and committees, internal meetings
- appointment committees
- job interviews
- meetings with companies / external partners
- exams
- counselling interviews
The videoconferencing-program is a product of alfaview GmbH, a German company. The conference service is operated exclusively in German data centers. This means, the software is „made in Germany“ and is regulated by the strict European law for data protection. Your data does not leave the European Economic Area.
First method: Hold the conference in one of the existing rooms in the university's room structure.
With ac-account or st-account / user-account:
- To enter a conference-room start alfaview by logging into our alfaview „landing page“ with your university-account. Then install the alfaview-app (in most cases possible to install on desktops without admin-rights) or open the app if you already have it installed. The app is available for most common systems (Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile devices).
- In the list of rooms you can see all rooms available for you. You can search for a specific room.
- You can also see whether there are people in the room already.
- Click on "Betreten" to enter the room.
- After entering the room you will have to activate your microphone via the main menu.
These steps are also valid for all further meeting participants wanting to entering the room. Meeting participants that are not university members receive a link in the invitation email, which allows them to install the app and enter the room (see also question "I am invited to a meeting. How do I enter the room?).
Second method: Hold conference in an adhoc room.
With your ac-account or st-account / user-account:
In order to start an adhoc conference room, start alfaview by logging onto our alfaview „landing page“ with your university account. Then install the alfaview-app (in most cases possible to install on desktops without admin-rights) or open the app if you already have it installed. The app is available for most common systems (Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile devices).
- On the upper right side above the list of rooms you can choose the option "new meeting / Neues Meeting"
- The input mask "Generate new meeting / Neues Meeting erstellen" opens.
After entering name, date, duration and meeting-participants you start the meeting by clicking on "Generate meeting / Meeting erstellen". Invitations to the meeting are sent out via email and include a link to the meeting room.

The invitation email includes a link. Click this link and install the app. If you already have the app installed, it will open as soon as you click the invitation link.
- Enter your name (if not already done) and confirm the legal notices.
- Click on "Enter / Betreten" to start the alfaview-app and enter the conference-room.
Your browser will ask you to choose an application that will be associated with the "Betreten"-button. Select the alfaview-app and save.

Alfaview runs on linux. you will find a package for a Debian-based system on the download page https://alfaview.com/de/download/ . There are further„inofficial“ portings. The alfaview-team will help you installing alfaview on your system, if necessary. Please contact an support-us@alfaview.com.
