Wi-Fi (eduroam)

1a. Deleting existing Wi-Fi profiles

The following instructions apply only to devices that have already been configured for eduroam. If you are setting up eduroam on your device for the first time, please start from step 2.

If you have already configured eduroam on your device, please remove all relevant saved Wi-Fi networks before setting up eduroam again. To do this, go to Settings, then Wi-Fi and "Manage known networks". There, tap "Forget this network" for any entries that you either do not recognise or do not currently need. If "eduroam" or "University of Stuttgart" appears here, please delete these as well so that it can be set up again correctly.

1b. Deleting installed device certificates from the Wi-Fi CA
Similarly – if you have already set up eduroam using a certificate – go to "User Certificates" under "My Certificates" (you can access this via the Windows menu or by pressing Windows+R and typing certmgr.msc) and delete all entries for tlsclient@uni-stuttgart.de. You must also have these certificates revoked via https://config.eduroam.uni-stuttgart.de/ (if you haven’t already done so).

2. Installation via the geteduroam app
Download the latest Windows version of the geteduroam app from https://geteduroam.app/. Open the app and enter “Stuttgart” in the search field. Select the entry for “University of Stuttgart”. You will be automatically redirected via a new browser window to the university’s authentication server and then to the eduroam configuration portal. On the screen, you must enter a device name that you can later use to identify this device (e.g. for certificate revocation as described in 1b.). Click on “Confirm” and “Complete” to finish the process. You will be automatically redirected back to the geteduroam app and can now close the window.

3. Removing uni-stuttgart-open
If you used the university’s open Wi-Fi network (uni-stuttgart-open) for the installation, please remove it by following the steps in point 1b. The "eduroam" network should now connect automatically, provided it is within range.

1. Deleting an existing eduroam profile

The following instructions apply only to devices that have already been configured for eduroam. If you are setting up eduroam on your device for the first time, please start from step 2.

When switching to a new profile on macOS, you must remove the existing eduroam profile. The quickest way to find installed profiles is to use Spotlight. To do this, press "cmd" + "Space". Search for "Profiles". Existing eduroam profiles can be removed here using the minus button.

2. Initial setup using an Apple configuration profile
Please visit https://uni-stuttgart.de/eduroam and click on “Continue”. Log in via the university’s authentication server and then click on “Request new cert”. In the form, enter a descriptive name for your device (e.g. MacBook 2025) and confirm by clicking “Request new certificate”. Under ‘macOS’, you will find the download link for the Apple profile file (mobileconfig). Download this file and, if it is not automatically loaded into your Settings by the browser, open the Settings app.
In Settings, you will now find a new profile, which you must activate by double-clicking on it. Confirm the dialogue box by selecting "Install…".

3. Removing uni-stuttgart-open
If you used the university’s open Wi-Fi network (uni-stuttgart-open) for the installation, please remove it from your list of saved Wi-Fi networks. "eduroam" should now connect automatically, provided it is within range.

The following instructions apply only to devices on which eduroam has already been configured. If you are configuring eduroam on your device for the first time, please start from step 2.

If you have already configured eduroam on your device, please remove all saved eduroam Wi-Fi networks before setting up eduroam again.

2. New setup via geteduroam
Please visit https://uni-stuttgart.de/eduroam and click on "Continue". 

Log in at idp.uni-stuttgart.de (if necessary).

"Request new cert" => "Device name or description"-> Confirm form

If you are using NetworkManager, download the certificate file in PKCS#12 format and enter it for eduroam. You can find the details for server verification in the table at the bottom of this page or on the configuration portal.
If you are using wpa_supplicant directly, download the certificate file in PEM format and follow the configuration instructions provided on the page.

3. Removing ‘uni-stuttgart-open’
If you used the university’s open Wi-Fi network (uni-stuttgart-open) during installation, please remove it from your list of saved Wi-Fi networks. ‘eduroam’ should now connect automatically, provided it is within range.

1a. New installation of the geteduroam app

The following instructions apply only to devices that have already been configured for eduroam. If you are setting up eduroam on your device for the first time, please start from step 2.

If eduroam is not working properly, delete the geteduroam app from your device by selecting ‘Uninstall’ via the Play Store or the app’s information context menu.

1b.Removing incorrect manual configurations 
In the settings under Wi-Fi, go to "Saved Networks" and remove any networks you no longer need or recognise. If “eduroam” or "University of Stuttgart" still appears here, remove this as well by selecting "Forget".
To ensure that the device applies all changes correctly, you may need to restart your device now.

2. Installation via the geteduroam app

Installing the profile requires a recent version of Android (Android 13 or later)! Older versions of Android incorrectly display a password prompt, which cannot be answered correctly – no matter what you enter. Please therefore check your system before proceeding with the configuration!

Install the geteduroam app on your device via the Play Store by tapping "Install".
Once there, enter "Stuttgart" in the search field and select the entry for "University of Stuttgart". You will be automatically redirected to a browser window where you will need to log in to the university’s identity server. The portal will then ask you to provide a descriptive name for the current device in order to issue a certificate. Tap “Confirm” and “Complete” to finish the process, and you will be taken straight back to the app. There, you must allow notifications and then save the new eduroam profile to the system by tapping “Save”.

You no longer need this browser window, so you can close it.

3. Removing uni-stuttgart-open
If you used the university’s open Wi-Fi network (uni-stuttgart-open) for the installation, please remove it by following the steps in point 1b. The ‘eduroam’ network should now connect automatically, provided it is within range.

When switching to a new profile on iOS, you must remove the old eduroam profile. Go to "Settings" > "General" > “Profiles” and select the old eduroam profile. Tap "Remove Profile". Even if no profile has been installed, please still follow the instructions in 1b.

1b. Ignore an incorrectly configured eduroam network
If the eduroam network has been set up manually or is otherwise incorrectly configured, a warning page will automatically appear on the University of Stuttgart campus, prompting you to correct the configuration. After deleting the profile, please check your device for incorrectly configured networks. To do this, go to "Settings" >"Wi-Fi" and click on the "i" icon to the right of the eduroam network. If the profile was created incorrectly, it will say "Ignore this network". Click on “Ignore this network”. You may need to restart your device after this step. In any case, under “Advanced” in the Wi-Fi menu, there should no longer be any networks saved that you are not actively using. Continue with the eduroam setup as described.

In Settings, you will now find a new profile, which you must enable there. Confirm the dialogue box by selecting "Install…".

If you used the university’s open Wi-Fi network (uni-stuttgart-open) for the installation, please remove it by following the steps in point 1b. "eduroam’" should now connect automatically, provided it is within range.
